Alfred Ho in his heyday. Some avid fans dubbed him the "Stevie Wonder of Malaysia" at one time, although Alfred Ho's instrument of choice is the guitar.

Robbed of his sight at the age of three after an attack of the measles, Perak-born Ho learnt to play the guitar from a schoolmate when he was admitted into St Nicholas School for the Blind in Penang for his primary education.

As he entered adulthood, it was obvious to anyone listening that he had a beautiful voice and could do almost perfect imitations of a range of singers, including Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, Engelbert Humperdink, and Pat Boone.

Although he secretly harboured hopes of becoming a full-fledged singer, Ho, coming from a practical family, enrolled for vocational training when he was 15 at the Gurney Training Centre for the disabled, where he learnt to be a telephone operator.

He also wrote to Radio Rediffusion -- one of the hottest media channels in those days -- hoping to get an audition to play a few songs on the show. "One of those people who auditioned me was Patrick Teoh. "They gave me a chance and I did a few shows with them," said Ho. Not soon after, television entered the Malaysian entertainment scene. Someone who had heard Ho on Rediffusion recommended that he participate in a show. "I was an amateur, but I felt confident enough to take part because there were people who really liked my music. "I thought I was going to be a guest artiste on some music programme. But what I didn't know was that it was actually a music contest! It was the 1971 Bakat TV, Bintang RTM now." The surprised Ho was also the only blind contestant in the singing competition. Although he didn't win, he managed to make it to the semi-finals.

As Ho took on a job with the Penang City Council as a telephone operator, he also did the rounds in pubs around town, playing his heart out, hoping that his music would be heard and appreciated. He even got to play at an Australian army base in Butterworth. "They really liked me and commented that if I were in Australia, I would have been a big hit," said Ho with a laugh.

It was during those days in the 1970s that he penned some of his own compositions, such as Train to Tennessee and Wendy's Love Song. The former is still remembered by many loyal fans. As his fan base grew, so did his confidence. Finally, he decided to quit his day job and become a full-fledged singer. "A lot of people advised me against it. "But I wanted to realise my dream."

The young Ho even dreamt of entertaining the crowds in Las Vegas. With such aspirations, he got himself a contract to play at a hotel in Terengganu. From there, he went on to play at various places in Malaysia, including in shopping complexes, before finally making Kuala Lumpur his base. In the capital, he was engaged for various private and corporate events. He was being recognised for his impressive renditions of old English songs, as well as for some of P. Ramlee's golden melodies, including Getaran Jiwa and Dengar Ini Cerita. He could also sing Mandarin, Hokkien and Thai songs. As his popularity grew, he even got the chance to join Time Highway Radio for a year as a disc-jockey.

Now at 62, Ho's life is still heavily intertwined with his love for singing and his guitar. "It seems I have always been playing the guitar and singing. "I think I will do this for as long as I can... until something happens and I am unable to sing anymore."

But chasing his dreams did not come without a price. He met a string of event organisers, who either conveniently forgot to pay him, delayed payment, or halved his pay after a performance by giving the excuse that they didn't have enough money. Many thought that he was easy prey because of his handicap. So he and his wife, Rufina, spent a considerable amount of time and effort having to chase after payments. "I don't understand... why do people want to take advantage of a blind person? We were not begging or asking for donations, just payment which had been promised."

Rufina, a clinic nurse, who often accompanied him on his gigs, was also treated badly most of the time. "Other singers had their manager's transportation, lodging and food paid. But in my case, I couldn't even get food for my wife," he lamented with a sigh.

Sometimes, he was asked to sing for very little money in exchange for opportunities "supposedly guaranteed" that he would be able to sell some albums. Ho, with the help of his wife, had managed to produce five albums throughout the years. "However, sometimes, after playing and entertaining the audience, the organiser would conveniently forget that he would help me sell some albums. So, I ended up with nothing much."

These days, the childless couple is still trying to source for opportunities to perform as rising inflation and cost of living has taken a toll on them. But being caught in the whirlwind of the digital age and the rapid growth of the entertainment industry, Ho, with Rufina, have been struggling to get his music across to the masses.

"Those days, playing in shopping complexes was cheap. But the exposure was good and opportunities for gigs were there when people saw how you performed. But now, as shopping complex managers become younger, many do not want to give me a chance because they
haven't heard of me, or my songs."

When he gave a 10-minute live demonstration on his guitar during the photo-shoot for this
article, interested shoppers immediately gathered around to listen and take photos.

Desperately trying to reach out to more listeners, Ho struggles to keep a blog, which he updates with the help of his wife. He has also opened up a Facebook account as well as a YouTube
channel, where he uploads his renditions of some easy-listening old favourites. "Although I'm not very familiar with Facebook I will also upload my videos there," he said.

Truly, this is a man who will continue to do his best, whatever the odds, for the one thing he
loves -- music.

THIS week, the spotlight is thrown on a veteran of the scene who has not let his disability stand in the way of musical success.

Alfred Ho, who is blind, has been one of the stalwarts of the music scene for more than three decades, wowing audiences with his laid back but powerful vocals.

Right now, fans of this veteran can catch him on Tuesday nights at the Ol’Skool Bistro on Jalan Gasing in Petaling Jaya.

Ho was originally scheduled to perform only during the Christmas season but the good response from the crowd will see him staying on at the outlet until Chinese New Year.

Listening to him, it is clear that he has never let his disability stand in the way of his passion and he has a wide repertoire of golden oldies to share with the crowd.

What is special about Ho is that he takes the time to have fun while performing, and he really knows how to engage the audience.

Most requests are handled promptly and he never seems to come up empty, no matter how obscure the request might seem.

One good example of this was during a recent set when a request for Fraulein by Bobby Helms was sent up to Ho.

Without skipping a beat, he hit the buttons on his drum machine and launched into the country classic without much ado.

On a typical night out with Alfred Ho, expect to hear songs by Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson and even Bread.

Ho doesn’t limit himself to the English classic though, as he has an equally wide repertoire of Mandarin and Cantonese numbers, including several classics by Sam Hui.

This week, the Christmas mood will still be in the air so expect Ho to concentrate on great Christmas songs, all delivered with flair and style.

Alfred Ho is a classic in his own right and it is good to see this veteran back in action at the pubs.

Ho begins his sets at 9.30pm at Ol’Skool Bistro in Petaling Jaya.

What are dreams made of? Alfred Ho tells you that passion, perseverance and willpower are the sense of motivations he needed to pursue his dreams.

Passionate about music, Alfred has been persevering in the past 26 years to live up to his dream as a musician – where he has performed solo and acoustically with a guitar in pubs, corporate events and special occasions.

The 62-year-old man has a strong willpower to do what he loves best: - to sing to his audience.

Unfortunately, he does not have the capacity to sustain his career delivering beautiful melody to the ears of those who appreciate his talent.

Alfred is, you see, blind.

The number of jobs he used to receive has declined which he said in shopping malls, “the younger generation of managers are not appreciative of the capabilities of blind people like me.”

“They didn’t want to give me a chance,” he lamented his disappointment.

Despite being visually impaired, Alfred’s determination and musical talent make him no less capable or confident than any other ordinary fellows.

The Perak-born performer speaks loud and sings clear, sending a simple message that he will not give up hoping that someday people would listen and give him a chance to continue to perform.

Besides entertaining, there was a pleasant sense of motivation while listening to Alfred plays original songs which he had composed back in the 70s; ‘Train to Tennessee", "Wendy’s Love Song" and "Foch Avenue".

Don't judge a book by its cover. You will be surprised with the gush sense of encouragement that Alfred is able to deliver through his performance and determination to carry on a path he has chosen.

Alfred, with the help from his wife Rufina, has ventured onto the social media platform, signing up for Youtube and Facebook accounts and creating a blog to show people his singing talent.

He has recorded and uploaded as many as 108 videos within two months onto Youtube where he shared songs of Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and several more legendary performers.

“Viewers have complained that the sceneries (of the videos) are dull. But outdoor is noisy and I want people to listen to my voice clearly,” he explained the simplicity of the home videos which they had problem with their budget to buy a recording device with good audio quality.

“Youtube is only the first step. Publicity is another hurdle I have to face before more people can get to know me,” he said adding that he lacks a manager to guide him.

Alfred said he had been approached by some interested people to help promote him, but they were never serious.

Meanwhile, he is planning to write a memoir that allows the public to understand the experiences of growing up as a disabled child.

Alfred’s ambition is to open a ‘dream café’ where he is looking forward to entertain people with nostalgic old songs and evergreen music.

He may be sightless but veteran singer Alfred Ho is not blind to his consumer’s rights.

He was sore when a music store rejected his claim for a refund.

While it was only a matter of RM100, he felt that as a customer he had the right to make the claim for an item that did not meet his requirement. So, he went to the small claims court, instead.

The court, also known as the Tribunal for Consumer Claims, on Wednesday ordered Woh Fatt Music House Sdn Bhd to give back the money to Ho, a one-time recording artiste who now sings in pubs and lounges.

Ho said he had wanted to return a guitar case he had bought from the shop and to ask for a refund, but his request was rejected.

'Those with sight can do more'

The singer, who has made albums of some self-composed songs and evergreen numbers, said he was thankful for the outcome and advised consumers who felt cheated to refer their complaints to the tribunal.

"Although I'm blind, I still came here to fight for my rights. My message here is, those with sight should be able to do more for themselves when they feel cheated," he said after the tribunal handed its decision.

Ho, currently singing at a bistro in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, said he brought his complaint to the tribunal when Woh Fatt Music House refused to give back his money for the guitar case bought from the shop.

Company to pay within 14 days

Court president Rahazlan Affandi Abdul Rahim ordered the shop to pay back Ho after advising them to amicably settle the dispute through negotiation as the amount involved was small.

Woh Fatt Music House, which was represented by K.C.Liew, was ordered to pay back Ho within 14 days while Ho should immediately return the guitar case after receiving the payment

Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism deputy secretary-general (Consumerism and Management) Mahani Tan Abdullah said under the Consumers Protection Act, a consumer has the right to return the product if it is deemed defective and not because he or she does not like the product.

Defective goods can be returned

“Malaysian consumers should understand that they can return the good if it is defective. They can also exchange the goods with something of a similar value and not less.

“In Ho’s case it is different. He is blind and the judges have been using their discretion in awarding Alfred Ho his claims.

“Furthermore the claim is also reasonable. I do not think that the judge will side with him if he made unreasonable claims.

“In my opinion, the salesman did not explain to him accordingly. Since Alfred could not see, the salesman should be more detail in explaining the product, “ Mahani said.

She added that this case should highlight the importance of ethics in business.

"I am happy that the judge had awarded Alfred Ho’s claim because, sometimes, business people must be reminded to be more ethical in doing their business, especially with the disabled.

PETALING JAYA - Alfred Ho is a blogger. Reading his postings makes you realise he is an articulate man. Reading them also makes you feel despondent.

For he writes about the hurdles he – and other people like him - has to overcome in living a life as best as he can under the circumstances.

Alfred, you see, is blind.

But he has been blessed with a musical mind and has found his calling as a singer cum guitarist.

“I have been in this profession for more than 20 years now and my forte is singing the old western favourites. I also sing in several Chinese dialects, including Spanish and several languages. I mainly do the pub circuits and perform at company and wedding functions,” he wrote on his blog, which has not been updated since November 2007.

Drop by a pub sometime and if you are lucky, you might catch Alfred in action, playing a few mean tunes and getting the crowd all worked up.

You might even find old folks hitting the dance floor to do the twist, as if creaky, calcium-deficit bones are nothing more than a figment of the imagination.

His passion for singing was stoked in part by Cliff Richard, whose earlier tunes like Y'arriva, Catch me and Tell me has shaped his musical direction.

If you don’t know by now, Alfred has a penchant for singing songs from the 50s to 70s by such legends as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Elton John.

In today’s world dominated by rap, hip hop and pop fluff, such oldies still has an entrenched following.

I decided to catch him performing one night in a Petaling Jaya bistro. I went in with no preconceptions whatsoever. Guess what, I enjoyed myself enormously. He hit the right chords in my book, singing John Denver’s Leaving on a Jet Plane, my all-time favourite. He also had me giggling to the funny nuances of a Hokkien song.

All in all, it was a great night out.

Despite all the well-meaning government and private campaigns to promote a caring society, the truth is society is made up of people who are largely self-absorbed. When you are disabled, the lack of concern and consideration shown is glaring and hurtful.

Alfred has been through the grind and knows first-hand the prejudices and discrimination he had to face as an employee and as a citizen standing up for his rights and what he perceived as social injustices.

He can rattle off a long list of employers who have been less than kindly to him over the years and who have attempted to limit his career opportunities at every turn. To him, many politicians are no better in treating those who are disabled.

Once upon a time, he had to soldier on alone. But the burden is made more bearable now with wife Rufina Baptist, by his side.

Rufina, who is partially sighted, is his pillar of strength. Alfred also finds music to be a balm that eases the pain of a blind man living a life with all its imperfections.

Despite the challenges, Alfred has not come this far to be defeated by an unfair world.

He will continue to stand up for what he believes is just and right. And he will keep on crooning the evergreens for that is his calling.

Onward, Ho!

The road’s been rough, but Alfred Ho’s burning desire to share the gift of music continues to spur him on.

ATTEMPTING to understand renowned local musician Alfred Ho’s predicament is simply impossible. Sure, he barely has a complaint about being blind and reaps an inordinate amount of joy by simply strumming his guitar and singing to an appreciative audience … and getting paid for the joy he loves sharing with his listeners.

But for those reading this (we who are bestowed with the gift of sight), we could never fathom what it’s like to be blind. It’s not quite like walking on a nature trail for a few hours in a cave or sitting in a dark room for a few quiet moments. Psychologically, we know we are still going to be able to see once we’re in the light or the lights are switched on.

Live energy: Local musician Alfred Ho’s greatest joy has been to perform before a live audience.

Ho has had a chequered career, though, from being an upstart on RTM’s Bakat TV in the early 1970s (when Jamali Shadat officially became the nation’s best loved funnyman), through his many years plying the pub circuit, right up to his current weekly stint (every Tuesday) at Ol’ Skool Bistro on Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The corporate circuit was a healthy source of income for the musician who turns 60 on July 9, but he has fallen on hard times. “The lack of a manager has been my setback. I can talk and perhaps sell myself, but I am not mobile. Besides, very little is about talent these days … it seems to be more about marketability. I have faith in my ability, though. I believe I am good. In fact, my new policy has been to tell myself that I am good,” he says, his spirit clearly unbroken.

A rousing rendition of The Beatles’ (he likes Paul best) Lady Madonna at the Yamaha music store in Mid Valley Mega Mall (where the picture on the right was taken) in KL was enough to have store staff, manager and customers clapping and singing along.

“Music is in my blood. I love to play the guitar … and it’s good to have an appreciative audience.”

A ex-schoolmate named Benjamin taught a then 12-year-old Ho to play the instrument. “I used to be very jealous of him,” Ho guilty admits with a smile.

Ho has had a flair for music since he was a child (he lost his sight when he was three following a bout of measles). “I used to hear old Chinese songs from my neighbour’s radio. I learned to play the harmonica, ukulele … and than I made a tin-can guitar.”

His first proper six-string – a Suzuki acoustic – was a birthday present from his late brother. “It was a good guitar; perfect for playing all those songs in the mid-60s by The Beatles and Cliff Richard.”

Ho admits that envy of these singers spurred him onto his craft. “I joined a talent-time competition in school.” He would also form his band, The Sharks, then. “We played mainly instrumentals,” he says, citing The Shadows as a particular favourite.

“Then someone got us a show at a theatre one day, and I remember my knees shaking,” he fondly reminisces.

His initial career as a telephone operator sidetracked his musical pursuit momentarily.

“It was taking a toll on me. I was playing in the pubs in Penang until 1am, then I’d have to report to work the next day at 6am ... it was really tough. But the minute I was on the bandstand, I would be alive again and just love it.”

Stints at the now defunct Rediffusion (a nod to programme manager Royston Goh and Patrick Teoh) and his semi-final qualification for Bakat TV saw his stock rise. Then there were the string of TV show appearances on variety programmes like Hiburan Malam Minggu and Serbaneka. College gigs had him reaching out to a younger audience as well.

His recording career took off after Bakat TV, though. Armed with a taste for artistes like Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, The Eagles, The Cascades, Connie Francis and a string of others, Ho was treated to the hallowed words, “Roll tape!”

“My first record was with Malaysian Musical Industries (MMI). My manager then, Stanley Joseph, whose father was the secretary to the minister of information then, (now Tun) Ghazali Shafie, helped me get into Bakat TV, and after that, the recording project came along. I recorded two EPs with MMI,” recalls the Perakian. The EPs included a mix of originals and covers. Some of his self-penned compositions included Train to Tennessee and Wendy’s Love Song.

Through the years, Ho has continued to record whenever opportunities have presented themselves. His greatest joy, though, has been to perform before a live audience. “It’s always nice when the audience participates,” he says appreciatively.

Perhaps there is a law of compensation at play where Ho’s blindness is concerned. While he may not be able to see, his sense of hearing and memory power are remarkable. Strum a chord on a guitar in front of him and there’s a good chance he’ll know what it is.

Ho also tried his hand at being a DJ but the short stint ended rather unceremoniously. “I would like to write a book to share some of my experiences ... good and bad, with people. I would especially like to reach out to parents of children with disabilities like blindness, and educate them on how to best care for their children and what potential problems they could face along the way,” he shares graciously.

His education may be nothing to brag about (he only completed Form 3), but Ho has some of the most irresistible and irrepressible qualities – he has the heart and stomach to do what he loves most, even when the going has been tough.

He is simply looking for opportunities to share his music.

“I play a variety of styles and am truly proud of this diversity. My talent is my product,” shares the singer, who sings in Bahasa Malaysia, various Chinese dialects, Spanish and Japanese, among others.

Ho’s requests are simple; he seeks a manager to help him with employment; he hopes to have some video footage of his performances up on the Internet, write a book to share his experiences and perhaps his most significant, to one day have a cafe of his own to perform at.

For those looking to give back, giving Ho a chance could be a worthwhile exercise in seeking inner happiness or contributing to the betterment of society. If it’s simply his music that entices, then head over to Ol’ Skool Bistro on Tuesday nights where he waits to simply entertain.

Dear Alfred,

To be frank with you, prior to a couple of years ago, I never heard of you nor your songs. Thanks to the introduction by my old schoolmate, William Lim, I was persuaded to join William and his friends initially at The Ol' Skool Bistro in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya. Since that night, I have tried never to miss your performance wherever you might be: at The Groove Junction, Sri Hartamas or Bonton Cafe Lot 10 or even at Pappa Rich, Jalan Bukit Bintang, that is if I am in town and not overseas.

If there is anybody in KL, or for that matter, Malaysia who despite visually challenged, can plug the guitar and sing like you, tell me so, for I have not seen one solo performer like Alfred Ho yet. Your ability to go down Memory Lane with songs from the Fifties and Sixties plus your talent of multi-lingualism (English, Malay, Chinese, Thai etc) not only just bring back sweet memories of times gone by, but also promote racial integration in harmonious sing-a-longs.

As an ardent fan of your blog I find that by far, this is your most frank and interesting article. your principles are most commendable. I'm sure that it takes a lot of courage to apologize to the whole nation with regards to your wayward son's outlandish behaviour. Personally, it is my opinion that you have taken the right decision by not complying to the wishes of the police, for had you given them a bribe, it will haunt you for the rest of your life and all your efforts to bring down the barisan government will be in vain. Like many of your readers, my heart certainly goes out to you but with God's intervention, I hope that your son will turn over a new leaf so that he can be an upright citizen again.

Finally, my regards to your family, and do stay safe wherever you are. For your information, I have copied all your articles thus far and will continue to do so to share with other Malaysians who are not politically motivated. Do keep up with the long and hard struggle for I am certain that through your efforts to bring about change in Malaysia, we will certainly be rewarded with success.

When I heard that ex Prime Minister Badawi was made advisers of both MAS and the Iskandar Corridor Project, I was quite astounded. Which person in their right mind would engage a failed ex premier to be an adviser of their company considering that he has no business experience at all. However, just like all other ex- top ranking government officials before him, Badawi has been given the above mentioned posts as an extension of his political career. The next time you
decide to fly on a MAS aircraft, my advice to you is to fasten your seat belt very securely and should you decide to visit the Iskandar Corridor zone in Johor, do ensure that you travel in a bullet proof vehicle for your very own safety.

Dear readers,

So once again the rakyat have spoken with a resounding voice, hence the handsome victory by the pakatan rakyat in both bukit gantang and bukit selambau respectively. All this goes to show that all right thinking Malaysians have had enough of barisan rule and that the arrogance that it has been displaying all these years is clearly being rejected by most Malaysian citizens including myself as a blind individual. It is my belief that part of pakatan rakyat's success is partly due to the power grab by the barisan government in Perak. Hopefully, it will just be a matter of time when the pakatan rakyat will take over the reins of power although at the moment it will still remain as a dream. Let us hope that my prediction will materialize in the not too distant future.

Finally, my heartiest congratulations to pakatan rakyat for their tremendous success in trouncing the barisan nasional candidates.

the statement made by the chairman of the CVLB that the wayward ways of errant taxi
drivers cannot be controlled is most disturbing and shocking to say the least. it is just like the police saying that crime cannot be erradicated as the criminals are too powerful and sophisticated. datuk makiman is certainly a disgrace and liability to the government, and the sooner he is relieve of his post, the better for all malaysians who have to rely on taxi services.

i wish here to congratulate karpal singh and his son for standing up to the might of the barisan nasunal government. the selective prosecution practiced by the ruling clique is most reprehensible.

touching on another matter, i wish to question the selangor government as to why they are wasting money and resources to hold the balkis enquiry, when at the end of the day none of the purpurtraitors can be proscecuted as they have been given immunity. this is certainly a sad state of affairs, to the point that even khir toyo and his wife cannot be compelled to attend the enquiry.

just like many other right thinking malaysians, i believe that the najib razak regime will be more oppressive than that of badawi's and that the pakatan rayat will have a much tougher time governing the states which they control. having been discriminated by the ruling government in the past, and even despite the fact that i am a blind individual, i have the strong urge to stand as a candidate in any future elections with the hope that i can help bring about a better malaysia where all citizens will be given equal treatment.

Dear readers,

The recent revelations made by both Nadaswaren and Terence Fernandez of the sun newspaper with regards to the corrupt practices going on at the tourism ministry is most troubling and shocking to say the least. I would not be surprised that this is only the tip of the iceberg and that a lot of wheeling and dealing is going around in other ministries. It is most unfortunate that in spite of the numerous scandals that have been exposed by these 2 brave journalists from the sun newspaper, everything seems to have been swept under the carpet, and what's more, to add insult to injury, none of the top officials in government have been brought to book for abuse of power. I think that it is appropriate for me at this juncture to remind the mca that if it is serious about reforming the barisan government, then it should take stern action against one of its top officials, namely, chew mei fun if she is found to be implicated in the tourism ministry saga, for 10,000 ringgit at the public's expense and having a chauffeur driven car is just not on. I would even go as far as to suggest that she be barred from participating in the forthcoming party elections to send her a clear message that abuse of power and corruption in any form will not be tolerated. At the same time, may I strongly urge Malaysiakini to start investigations on the tourism ministry scandal without delay so that the perpetrators of these crimes can be exposed and be made to answer for abusing the trust that have been given to them by the rakyat.

I also read with horror, an article that is doing the rounds over cyber space, with regards to the exchange of text messages between Najib Razak and lawyer shafee abdullah pertaining to the altuntaya murder mystery. Finally, may I caution all right thinking Malaysians not to rejoice at prime minister Badawi's exit from the top post of the land as I am quite certain that he is going to have the last laugh at all of us, for I am sure he knows only too well what is in store for us in the future when najib assumes power. Furthermore, it has been speculated that ex premier mahathir will become najib's top adviser which certainly spells disaster for all Malaysians. How can all law abiding citizens allow such a person as najib to be our next prime minister when he has been tainted and linked to several scandals. May I take this golden opportunity to remind all Malaysians who seek justice to remember our beloved hero, Rajah Petra who is now languishing in jail for exposing the corrupt practices of this very despotic regime. I am glad to inform all readers of Malaysiakini that despite the fact that I'm a blind inividual, I made it a point to attend a candlelight vigil last night to try and pressure the evil government to release RPK without delay and unconditionally, for he is certainly the voice and conscience of the nation and we should be proud of the sacrifices that he is making for all of us with the hope that we can have better leaders in the not too distant future.

COMMENTS IN MALAYSIA TODAY - 23RD SEPT 2008

Yesterday was certainly a dark day for all right thinking Malaysians. As RPK has been instrumental in helping Pakatan Rakyat wrest control of five states during the last general election, I feel strongly that Pakatan should now return the favour by forming a pressure group to seek his freedom. I also think that all the people who regularly read Malaysia Today should stand out to be counted at this critical time. They must stop hiding behind fictitious names and do something for RPK for a change. Perhaps they can form a group to pressure the government into releasing him. RPK’s detention under the ISA is certainly a desperate act by the government to prevent its secrets from being revealed in court. Why is the government so afraid of RPK? Maybe this courageous man does indeed have proof of all the outrageous claims he makes in his blog? The government must be held fully responsible for this very cruel act. I hope Pakatan comes to power soon and puts right all the wrongs of this government, starting with the draconian ISA.

Finally, my prayers go out to RPK and his family during this very trying time and let us all right thinking Malaysians do what we can to pressure the government into releasing RPK unconditionally.

I wish to condemn in the strongest terms the arrests of Raja Petra and Sin Chew reporter, Tan Hoon Cheng by the police on the instructions of the oppressive Barisan government. This owardly act by the Barisan regime will certainly not go down well with all right thinking Malaysians. My thoughts and prayers go out to Marina as she goes through the ordeal of having her husband taken away from her. It is my sincere hope that Pakatan Rakyat will not disappoint her and all other Malaysians by arresting power from this cruel regime so that all Malaysians will be treated equally.

Dear readers,

It is most distressing to note that there are 2 sets of laws in Malaysia, 1 for the members of the ruling clique and its supporters, while the other for the common man and members of the opposition parties. This is certainly a most disturbing trend and it looks like selective prosecutions have been practiced throughout the years. A very good example is how Anwar was recently arrested and humiliated even before he was charged, not to mention the fact that he was made to stay 1 night in prison, and the ordeal that he had to go through. We now hear that a member of the ruling party has had 5 reports made against him for sedition, and he has now made himself scarce in spite of the fact that he has been summoned by the police to have his statements recorded at the police station. Why was not Ahmad Ismail given the same treatment as Anwar? In my opinion, it is very glaring that the police is practicing double standards when it comes to dealing with people who are accused of breaking the law. If this trend is to continue, then we citizens of Malaysia have every cause to worry and fear as it is most certain that we have to bear the injustices being practiced by the police force. I recall that numerous police reports have been made against people in high places within the government, but alas, no action seems to have been taken, and these people have continued with their misdeeds as they know that they are untouchable where the law is concerned.

Finally, I am very excited to hear the announcement made by PKR that they can convince 40 members of the ruling administration to cross over thus making it possible for Pakatan Rakyat to form the next government. However, being the skeptic that I am, I fear that this is near impossible as the Barisan government will fight tooth and nail just to stay in power. I would even go so far as to say that top leaders of the opposition parties might be arrested and detained under the draconian ISA and that our freedoms will be further curtailed . We are certainly living in exciting times, but let us hope and pray that Anwar's plans will materialize so that all Malaysians can have a better deal, otherwise, our country is doomed. In conclusion, I wish to remind the Pakatan Rakyat that should it manage to arrest power from the current government, to prosecute Barisan government officials and their cronies if they are found to be involved in corruption and may the full force of the law be brought to bear upon them.

Once again, the people of Permatang Pauh have spoken on behalf of all right thinking Malaysians who desperately want change, and that is what happened last night when Anwar Ibrahim regained his parliamentary seat. I wish here to convey my heartiest congratulations to Anwar for his resounding victory against the Barisan Nasional candidate. While we celebrate Anwar's huge success, let us not forget the many people who were behind the scenes to make this election victory possible for him. I am quite certain that many PKR members and supporters would have worked tirelessly to ensure Anwar's victory. We must not also forget to acknowledge our thanks to people such as Rajah Petra and the leaders of the Pakatan Rakyat parties for their kind assistance in helping make Anwar's win in the much talked about bi elections possible. With a dynamic person such as Anwar returning back to parliament to head the opposition, I have no doubt whatsoever that the Barisan government will try all ways possible to deprive Anwar of his sweet victory by continually putting obstacles in his path to prevent him from toppling the ruling administration. The impending court case against Anwar for sexual crimes is just 1 good example. The Barisan Nasional crooks will stop at nothing to prevent Anwar from forming the new government just so that they can continue to plunder the nation with impunity. As I have said many a time, all right thinking Malaysians are desperately crying out for change and Anwar is just the right person who can help us effect change in this respect by forming the next government.

I wish to take this golden opportunity to commend both Lim Guan Eng and his personal assistant for their bravery by not giving in to the death threats that they have received as a result of the numerous land scams that have been unearthed recently. The death threats made on these 2 honourable gentlemen is most despicable and the police should take this matter very seriously by proceeding with investigations immediately so that the perpetrators of this hideous crime can be brought to justice and that the culprits be made to face the full force of the law. From my observations,the death threats made on Lim Guan Eng and his personal assistant is the work of high ranking officials from the former ruling administration who are now feeling the heat and have every reason to fear the retribution that is slowly but surely coming their way. I wish here to urge Lim Guan Eng and his administration to expose all the corruption that has been practiced by former government officials without fear or favour and may the full force of the law be brought upon them as an example to other officials in his administration who might plan to involve themselves in corruption in future. The people of Penang have been taken for too long a ride by the former administration as revenue collected from Penang tax payers have been greatly abused by greedy and incompetent officials of the former ruling government.

Finally,it is my fervent hope that the DAP ruling administration will continue with the good work so that Penang can get back its former glory and have the pride of being known as the Pearl of the Orient once again. Dear Datuk Seri Anwar,

I strongly urge you to continue fighting the good fight in spite of the dirty tactics of the barisan government to thwart your chances of winning the forthcoming elections. Just like all right thinking Malaysians, we are all desperate for change and you are our saviour to prevent our country from total destruction. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I am quite certain that you will be victorious in the elections and it is hoped that you will lead the next government where all Malaysians will be given equal treatment regardless of race or religion. Allow me to wish you all the very best in your quest to be the next prime minister of Malaysia. For your information, I was the blind individual whom you met when Kim Quek was inducted into your party. As a singer musician by profession, I offered to perform at one of your functions as I am very much aware that you enjoy listening and singing the songs of Elvis, Cliff Richard, Paul Anka and Johnny Tillotson, to name just a few.

Surely, the government can do more for disabled people.

BLIND musician Alfred Ho was on the line with me last Friday. He called to say his piece on a news report that “only 50 disabled people have applied for the 10,000 jobs made available in the public sector.”

The report quoted Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen as saying that all kinds of jobs were available, from rank and file such as office boys to management level, but unfortunately, there have been few takers.

Alfred was particularly offended by the minister’s remark that “I have mentioned about the vacancies available many times in the newspapers. You (disabled people) cannot expect us to knock on your door and inform you of the opportunities.”

The reason why Alfred was unhappy with Dr Ng’s statement was that he had personally gone to parliament two months ago to see the minister seeking her help to find suitable employment. He did not get to see the minister but Dr Ng’s assistant came out to receive Alfred’s letter of appeal.

“It has been two months now and I haven’t heard from the minister or from her office. Now she is saying that the disabled are not applying for vacancies available.

“But I came knocking on her door and she did not attend to my appeal for a suitable job,” Alfred lamented.

I believe many in Sarawak are also familiar with Alfred Ho, the blind singer/musician. He had appeared many times over RTM and other TV stations. His melodious voice and his uncanny ability to croon many oldies almost to perfection had endeared him to those who love old time favourites.

However, Alfred never had the opportunity to perform in Sarawak. “So far, I have never been invited by anyone to perform in any function in Sarawak,” he said.

But he was in Sabah on several occasions to sing at private functions of the Lions Club and the Association of the Blind in Kota Kinabalu.

Blind since he was three, Alfred recalled that his interest in music started at a very young age. He even formed a boys band in his teenage years.

Upon leaving school, Alfred worked as a telephone operator but as he realised soon after that his calling was in music and singing, he became a professional singer in 1985. He was a regular at the pub circuit and at many premiere social events throughout the country. He also wrote his own songs and had produced some decent albums.

At 59 now, Alfred has not slowed down — he could not afford to. “The problem is, life as a musician does not provide you with a stable income. It also gets tougher when you’re older to land a gig. Also, I do not have a manager because I cannot afford one.”

Four years ago, Alfred was lucky to get a job as a deejay in RTM. However, after six months, he lost his job. He has been making an issue about this over the past years as he claimed that he is still unaware up till today of the real reason why he was asked to leave RTM. As he suspected discrimination (because he is visually impaired), Alfred remains bitter over the incident.

Alfred married 10 years ago but the couple has no children. “No, I think I have to be responsible. With my irregular income, it’s not fair to let the kids suffer later,” he added with a tinge of sadness.

He told me that his last performance was at a private event two months ago and his next one is two weeks away. “So in between, I am actually jobless,” Alfred lamented.

Alfred’s predicament and difficulties he encountered being blind is shared by many of the disabled in our community.

In a way, I’m glad that Dr Ng Yen Yen has said that the government needed to find out why the disabled group had been reluctant to take up the jobs. But I thought that should have been known to her people in the ministry a long time ago. She may be new in the job but the Welfare Ministry has been around for as long as I can read ABC, I think. So it’s another tedious time-wasting process for the government to find out why when the answers are already there. Another Malaysia Boleh mentality, is it?

However, in case the minister wants answers, several NGOs have responded immediately, citing a lack of an integrated transportation system, a failure in communication, and the language barrier.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Mobility Association president Anthony Arokia said transport posed a major problem for the disabled. “The trans-port system is a stumbling block. The moment we step out of our houses; we cannot get to the work places,” said Anthony, who is wheelchair-bound.

Taiping Community Services Association vice-chairman Chow Chee Keong said it was unfortunate that some information about the job opportunities did not reach those staying outside the Klang Valley, such as in Taiping, Ipoh and Penang.

“I had, on several occasions, enquired about job opportunities from the Welfare Department office in Taiping, but the officers said they did not know much,” he said.

Beautiful Gate Foundation executive director Sia Siew Chin said many disabled persons were lowly educated and did not speak fluent Bahasa Malaysia.

There you go, Dr Ng Yen Yen. Very familiar answers, don’t you think? I would have thought that her ministry would have studied all these issues before advertising the vacancies for the disabled. So it’s now back to the drawing board again!

I am also glad that the Persons with Disabilities Act 2008 has been gazetted and came into force on July 7. This is the first rights-based legislation for people with disabilities (PWD).

With the enforcement of the Act, PWDs will be able to enjoy better public transport facilities, amenities and services. They will also have equal opportunities to health, education, information, communication and technology and rehabilitation, improved employment opportunities as well as sports, leisure and cultural life.

However, I sincerely hope that the provisions of the Act will be strictly enforced as its effectiveness is para-mount to ensure that the disabled in our society are protected too.

Here, I hope that my talented friend Alfred Ho may find gainful employment soon somewhere, somehow. Alfred, like all our disabled friends, certainly deserve better.

Letter to Malaysiakini - 21st August 2008

Having heard last night's debate between Lim Guan Eng and his predecessor Koh Tsu Koon, it is my personal opinion that the former is not as dynamic as his father, namely, Lim Kit Siang. Had Lim Kit Siang been allowed to face Koh Tsu Koon in the debate, I am quite certain that the latter would be trounced in the debate. It was rather unfortunate, that Guan Eng allowed himself to be mercilessly attacked by Tsu Koon during the debate, and Koh's attempt to defend both himself and his former administration was most reprehensible to say the least. I wish here to take to task the moderator of the debate, Yohan Jafaar for being very biased by asking a question such as, "is the current Penang government going on a witch hunt against the former Gerakan administration instead of delivering it's promises to the electorate of Penang to rule fairly without fear or favour". In short, I feel that Koh Tsu Koon won the day, not because he was not involved in wrong doing, but because he was the better speaker. However, like many other right thinking Malaysians, Guan Eng and his administration should pursue the numerous land scams with vigour and bring the perpetrators to justice without delay as millions of dollars are involved.

As usual, the BN government is at it again, by engaging saboteurs, disguised as pkr supporters to harass press photographers to put Anwar and his party in a bad light. Not surprisingly, home minister syed hamid has threatened that the opposition will be charged for sedition if racial issues are brought up during the election campaign. The BN government is certainly bankrupt of ideas, in preventing Anwar from winning the permatang pauh elections. However, in spite of the dirty tactics of the ruling administration, I strongly believe that Anwar will win the elections with a thumping majority which will certainly put fear in the barisan leaders. Here's wishing Anwar and PKR all the very best in their crusade to bring about a better Malaysia where all Malaysians will be given equal treatment in every respect.

Saturday Nite Live artistes have always been a favourite with the Batek Ba crowd and none more so than Alfred Ho, the visually-challenged crooner. His versatility and the range of his repertoire were truly displayed when he sang Chinese songs such as Francis Yip's "Shanghai Beach" to Teresa Teng's "The Moon Represents My Heart" and a couple of numbers later, switching effortlessly to a Spanish number and then a Thai evergreen "Loy Krathong".

He was word-perfect with such childhood songs as "Burung Kakak" or that school day campfire favourite "Ging Gang Gooli-Gooli".

But his most endearing quality must be his ability to play any song from the 50's and 60's at the shout of a title. About half a century ago, I remember sharpening the metal stylus for my uncle's gramophone and playing Marty Robbin's "The Story Of My Life" and Pat Boone's " Bernadine" and Alfred Ho was able to magically remind me of my carefree childhood.

He rekindled our admiration for artistes such as Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley, The Platters, Jose Feliciano, CCR and even Russ Hamilton and Frankie Lane.

The crowd at the Batek Bar just wouldn't let him go and thanks to the good sense of Alex Bremmer, the GC member on duty, Alfred stayed on for an extra session and entertained us with "Red sails in the sunset" and "Only you", among other golden oldies. Many of the members present could be seen humming the words or singing along with gusto. Beatles hits such as "I saw her standing there" and Mary Hopkin's "Those were the days" reverberated along with "Obladi-Oblada".

Alas, all good things must end and many of us went back, happy and contented to be least momentarily transported back to the good old days when songs were so singable. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. (sigh)

Letter To malaysiakini (24th July 2008)

Dear readers,

It did not come as a surprise to me as it was already a foregone conclusion that the judge in the altuntaya trial would reject karpal's application for both najib and PI subramaniam to testify in the well publicized case. it is my contention that some hidden hands have been manipulating this sensational trial all along. if both najib and rosma have nothing to hide, why has popular blogger rajah petra been harassed and that charges have been brought against him in court. if the above mentioned couple are innocent in this matter, then the proper thing to do would be to bring a civil suit against rajah petra for defamation instead of using the powers of the government to charge him. as the 2nd most powerful person in the land, najib should have no qualms about suing the pants off rajah petra so as to retain his good reputation. anyway, it would be most interesting to hear the explosive revelations that rajah petra will be making in his trials. we should not be surprised if the charges against rajah petra are suddenly dropped and the 3 accused in the altuntaya trial are found not guilty for lack of evidence.

touching on another matter, i wish to express my shock and horror at the way anwar was badly treated recently. the way that anwar was arrested was most deplorable and a waste of police resources. the ruling administration must have sanctioned the way that anwar was arrested, where 15 police cars were utilised and a force of policemen in ski masks were sent to capture him as though he was a notorious criminal. then anwar was further humiliated by having his private parts examined at the hospital to be later denied by the director herself. to add insult to injury, anwar was made to spend 1 night in a prison cell where he had to endure a lot of pain by sleeping on a cold cement floor. i wish here to congratulate anwar ibrahim for winning the debate against sabri cheek prior to his arrest. anwar being the orator that he is certainly gave a good performance, whilst his opponent sabri cheek made a fool of himself in spite of the fact that he was a former lecturer, by hitting below the belt in trying to brand anwar as a rebel by being involved in demonstrations in the past. however, although sabri broke the rules of the debate by digressing, as usual, anwar kept his cool thus allowing the debate to continue smoothly. where i am concerned, sabri was not in the least convincing as he was rather evasive when answering certain questions put forward to him.

at this juncture, i wish here to express my fury at the barisan government for trying to create trouble within the pakatan rakyat by instigating PAS to join them in forming the new selangor government. fortunately, nik aziz and his party has wised up to the dirty tactics of the ruling clique, thus averting such a great disaster from taking place. by the way, why was P.M abdullah badawi discussing with PAS about malay unity. as lim kit siang rightly said, wasn't badawi supposed to talk about malaysian unity instead? on behalf of all right thinking malaysians, i wish to take home minister, syed hamid alba to task for ordering the recent road blocks for no rhyme or reason at all, although he tried to justify himself miserably but without success. doesn't he realize that a lot of inconvenience was caused to the general public not forgetting the vast amount of petrol dollars that was cruelly wasted just to try to keep anwar ibrahim in check. in my opinion, this is certainly the workings of a government that is bankrupt of ideas, and who have no compunction about ruling over its subjects with an iron grip. as written by one of the columnists going by the name of george hong over malaysiakini recently, malaysia could go the way of Romania, if the barisan government continues with its apartheid policies and does not check corruption practiced by its leaders and cronies which is at an all time high.

How they arrested Anwar

The road blocks ordered by the government was most outrageous and unnecessary. Nothing will be achieved, if we as right thinking citizens of this country are not prepared to leave our comfort
zones but just continue to bombard and criticize this oppressive regime over the Internet without revealing our true identities for I fear that our nation will be doomed.

RPK is certainly a shining beacon for us all malaysians to emulate as his bravery knows no bounds. It is my sincere hope that he will form a political party before too long as a person of his integrity is what we desire before our country is completely destroyed by this evil government.

I must admit that I am no big fan of the pakatan rakyat as I have been greatly disillusioned by 2 of the component parties, namely, the DAP and the PKR. Nevertheless, I still feel that it is better for the pakatan rakyat to rule the country as this is the better alternative. I would advice all readers of this blog not to watch parliament proceedings as the speakers of the house are always biased towards the opposition when they are supposed to be neutral towards all the MPs.

Desperations of a crumbling regime

out of sheer desperation, the barisan government is now employing dirty tactics to thwart anwar's chances of becoming prime minister of Malaysia. certain people in high places within the ruling party hatched a plot to plant a mole in anwar's office to spy on his activities, and now we learn that this person has made a police report against anwar for sodomizing him. being the brilliant politician that anwar is, i do not for one moment believe that he would be so foolish as to jeopardize his chances of becoming the leader of this country, by involving himself in this criminal act. come to think of it, are there not rumours banded around that a certain minister within the cabinet has got lesbianic tendencies? prime minister abdullah badawi has compromised his neutrality with regards to anwar's police report by suggesting that a person who is accused of a crime will always deny it and plead innocence. badawi even went on to say that he is certain that his good friend najib razak is not involved in this matter. it is my contention that the barisan government is trying to silence its critics,by persecuting people such as anwar ibrahim, and the well respected blogger, raja petra kamarudin who has been continually divulging the very dark secrets of this very corrupted government. From time to time even news portal Malaysiakini has been taken to task for it's unbiased reporting; which leads me to enquire as to whether the case of the reporter whose computer went missing at parliament house has been solved and compensation made to her. Anwar Ibrahim would be well advised to stay out of circulation until it can be confirmed that all charges against him have been dropped and that his personal safety can be guaranteed by the ruling administration. Likewise, I hope that Raja Petra will remain vigilant at all times to safeguard his own personal safety, as we are all living in very dangerous times.

the despotic regime that is ruling this country has taken Malaysians for fools all these years, but thanks to the advent of the Internet, we Malaysians have become much wiser and can differentiate between right and wrong. why does the ruling government always have to justify all their actions? for example, they had to justify to the people of penang that it was not an act of vengeance when they canceled the monorail and outer ring road projects. this time round, the government claims that the police report made against anwar is not politically motivated.

finally, may i strongly urge all right thinking sabahans and sarawakians to join yong tek lee and his comrades to stand for their rights and not to be dictated too by the central government whose power is slowly but surely eroding and i am quite certain that some of the barisan government leaders can see the writing on the wall. Let us all hope and pray that Malaysia does not go down the same road as Zimbabwe, where it's evil dictator Mugabe has succeeded in crushing all opposition to his hold on power and at the same time ruling over his subjects like a tyrant.

malaysian prime minister, abdullah badawi has done it once again. first, he lied about his very own wedding. then, he lied about the disillusionment of parliament prior to the recent general elections. believe it or not, he has just announced the cancellation of the monorail and outer ring road projects in penang. i think that it is high time that badawi step down to make way for someone who is more capable, trustworthy and who has got better leadership qualities. whilst i am on this subject, what are ministers whose reputations have been tainted, such as tengku adnan and mohamed taib doing in his cabinet. come to think of it, some of the ministers in badawi's cabinet have been linked to corruption and their arrogance towards their malaysian subjects is most reprehensible. in short, the barisan government has overstayed its welcome and a change of government is what we really need. as prime minister of Malaysia, badawi has betrayed the trust of the people by shielding his cronies from being prosecuted for the crimes which they have committed. if badawi continues to hang on to power, then i fear that as law abiding citizens of this country, we face a very bleak future. to find out how i have been unfairly treated as a blind individual by this very uncaring government, please visit my blog at

OPEN LETTER TO NURUL IZZAH ANWAR (MP LEMBAH PANTAI) - 23RD JUNE 2008

Dear YB Nurul,

First of all, allow me to congratulate pakatan rakyat on your 100 days governing the 5 states of malaysia. By the looks of things, you have all done a wonderful job. Do not allow the barisan government to interfere with your ruling the 5 states which you have captured during the recent general elections.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am a blind individual and a singer by profession. As a blind individual, I strongly feel that I have been discriminated against by the ruling barisan government where employment is concerned. To cut a long story short, some years ago, I was employed as a d.j over rtm, but 6 months down the road I was relieved of my job. As a result, I wrote in to the then information minister, namely, Khalil Yaacob to intervene in the matter, but all my letters to him has gone unanswered until this very day. I even approached the MCA, Gerakan, Lee Lam Thye and suhakam for assistance but all my pleas for help were ignored. This certainly speaks volumes about this very uncaring barisan government. For your information, right after the 2004 general elections, I wrote a letter to prime minister Abdullah Badawi to intervene in the matter which I have stated above and I purposely attended his hari raya
gathering to hand him the letter concerned. However, believe it or not, I have not heard from him until this very day.

Several weeks ago, I had a brainwave and wrote a memorandum to the PM reminding him of my previous letter to him. Subsequently,I made a trip to parliament house with the intention of handing the memo to PM Badawi personally. Unfortunately, I was denied entry into parliament house, but whilst waiting to be allowed to enter, I met a reporter from bernama going by the name of Sabrina where I told her about my predicament but sad to say, she never lifted a finger to assist me in this matter. While waiting outside parliament house, I contacted some of the news media by phone such as the sun newspaper, the star newspaper and even news portal malaysiakini but my pleas for them to send reporters to interview me outside the gates of parliament house proved to be unsuccessful.

Finally, one of the guards summoned the assistant of Dr Ng Yen Yen, the minister of community services to see me and the name of the assistant goes by the name of Helmy who assured me that the memorandum to the PM would be handed to his boss. However, several weeks have now gone by and I have contacted Helmy on a few occasions, but to be told each time that his boss is very busy.

YB, I wish to request that you bring up this matter in parliament so that other handicapped people will not be discriminated against in future where employment is concerned. Should you wish to contact me by phone, then my contact numbers are as follows:-

Restructuring federal-state relations

May I advice all pakatan rayat officials not to be too eager to allow barisan mps who jump ship to join their ranks as this could be a recipe for disaster where Malaysians are concerned. Although the pakatan rayat may wish to take over the federal government, it must be cautious, because if a blunder is made, there may be no turning back.

Finally, may I request all right thinking Malaysians to disregard the ramblings of old man river, i.e Mahathir as I feel that he has already passed his sell-by date.

A federation of malay states in the making

Recently, the trigger-happy DAP formed an organisation known as graft busters, headed by top officials such as Tony Pua, & Gobind Singh Deo,to give the public a chance to expose corruption & inefficiencies of the barisan government. As such, I took the opportunity to write them a letter with regards to my experiences on the above mentioned. However, there has been no response whatsoever from these arrogant people. My letter to graft busters is as follows:-

Congratulations on the formation of this organization which I hope will be a great help to the public at large. I wish to draw your attention to several matters that are of grave concern to me as a blind individual. Although they may not be related to corruption but I strongly feel abuse of power is involved.

Firstly, I lodged a police report about 2 years ago with regards to a cheating case and believe it or not, I have not heard from the investigations inspector even after several reminders to him for a progress report. In this particular case, I think that abuse of power is involved because the person who swindled me claims to be related to Ali Rustam, the Chief Minister of Malacca.

At around the same time, I took a case against a trader in the consumer tribunal court for selling me a product that was not user-friendly to me as a blind individual. Furthermore, the trader even made false claims about the product which he sold me. The reason for my highlighting this problem is because I felt that the trial judge of the court was rather biased in his judgement and only sent me the written judgement after more than a year after numerous reminders, so that I had no recourse in contesting his judgement in the high court.

Finally, I wish to draw your attention to the fact that I was relieved of my job as a disc jockey with RTM for no apparent reason. I consequently wrote to the then Information minister, namely, Khalil Yaccob several times for assistance in the matter, but all my letters went unanswered. I also wrote to Suhakam and the Prime Minister himself to intervene in the matter but all my efforts came to zero. Last but by no means least, I approached the MCA complaints officer, namely, Michael Chong for assistance but was given the cold shoulder. I have also tried to highlight my predicament with the press but again, all neglected my pleas for assistance. On 12/5/2008, I tried to hand a memorandum to PM Abdullah at Parliament House but was denied entry. The memorandum is with regards to a letter which I personally handed to him at his hari raya gathering in 2004 and although 4 years has gone by, he has decided not to entertain my pleas for assistance. However, I was able to hand the above mentioned memorandum to the assistant of Ng Yen Yen by the name of En Helmy who assured me that PM Abdullah would get the memo and that his boss would arrange for me to have a meeting with her to address the matter at hand. Some weeks have gone by and nothing has been heard from him (En Helmy) ever since.

Subsequently, on 1st June 2008, I tried to raise this matter up with Zaid Ibrahim (Law Minister) at the Question and Answer session at the National Press Club with regards to press freedom. However, after trying to raise the issue at hand, I was prevented from continuing in highlighting my problems to the Minister. It therefore begs me to ask this question, DOES PRESS FREEDOM REALLY EXIST IN THIS COUNTRY AND HOW LONG IS THE BARISAN GOVERNMENT GOING TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST IT'S HANDICAPPED CITIZENS IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT THE MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT HAS SIGNED THE UN CHARTER TO GIVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OF EMPLOYMENT TO THE DISABLED COMMUNITY.

Dear readers,

It looks as though the BN government has still not learnt it's lesson even after having been defeated by the opposition parties in 5 states. The federal government is now trying to punish the pakatan rakyat into submission by withholding funds to these five states and by not co-operating in tourism and more recently trying to sabotage the 2nd bridge and monorail projects. It is my contention that the vindictive BN government is trying to frustrate the pakatan rakyat parties by starving them of funds so as to cause displeasure among the citizens of the 5 states governed by the opposition with the hope that the governments in these 5 states would fall. It is rather ironical that the prime minister has constantly said that he respects the decision of the electorate and will not discriminate against the citizens of the 5 states that are being governed by the pakatan rakyat, but however, his ministers are contradicting him by showing their vengeance in their confrontational attitudes towards the pakatan rakyat governments.

I wish here to touch on the BALKIS welfare organization controversy that was unearthed recently. Allow me to pose just 2 questions to the officials of this so-called charity and they are as follows:-

1. If BALKIS has helped many underpriviledged people as it has claimed, how come there are still around 10 million ringgit still in its bank accounts?

2. Why the rush to deregister the organization and transfer the money to bakti if they have nothing to hide? The lame excuse that the new selangor government will not use the funds accumulated wisely to help the disadvantaged is certainly outrageous and without basis.

It is my fervent hope that the registrar of societies will not agree to deregister BALKIS until a full investigation has been made on the organization. I strongly feel that the selangor government should investigate this matter thoroughly even if the funds are returned. This case should be pursued with vigour, and if officials of BALKIS have been found to be corrupt or who have indulged in malpractice should be dealt with severely by the law. Finally, for the record, as a blind individual I have not heard about BALKIS until recently, and I have not received any assistance from them in the past whatsoever. Dear readers,

I am indeed shocked to read of the revelation where a woman who made a police report against a former minister for molest, and who has now retracted it by saying that she was feeling moody on that particular day. If what she says is true, then I strongly feel that stern action should be taken against her for wasting police resources and for making false accusations against a public figure.

However, it is my belief that there is more than meets the eye, for I am under the impression that pressure was brought upon the complainant to withdraw the police report to save the
minister's reputation.

HATS OFF TO THOSE WHO BROUGHT CHANGE

The people of Malaysia have finally spoken and a quiet revolution of sorts has taken place. I think that the election results would have been even more impressive for the opposition had the Election Commission acted impartially.

However, at least the opposition has now denied the Barisan Nasional government its two-thirds majority in Parliament and that is certainly a good start. I am glad to have been able to play a small part in this quiet revolution by urging Malaysians to bring about change by voting for the opposition. I equate the election results to ‘People Power’ and with the winds of change. The MIC and Gerakan are now both irrelevant. The MCA and the PPP have also been dealt a heavy blow and I am sure that the leaders of the Barisan Nasional will have a lot of soul-searching to do.

Let us hope that the three successful opposition parties can get their act together and rule efficiently the five states that right thinking Malaysians have delivered into their hands and not fail the many citizens who have helped bring about this change. As a blind individual myself, I hope that discrimination towards the disabled community will be a thing of the past and that we will be given equal opportunities where jobs are concerned. As a singer, musician myself, I hope to be given opportunities to perform at government and other public functions.

Finally, I wish to thank all those who campaigned tirelessly to bring about this change and these include people such as Raja Petra, the Lim combo, Anwar Ibrahim, Jeff Ooi, the list goes on. I also wish to take this golden opportunity of saying special thanks to the alternative media for giving us a platform to air our views during the run-up to the elections. Let us hope that the Barisan Rakyat will keep its promises to the people by looking into their interests and that
corruption and cronyism will be things of the past.

While I am on this subject, it is my sincere hope that all those who have been involved in corruption during the former administration be charged in court and that the full force of the law be brought to bear upon them for their misdeeds to teach them a lesson that they will not forget in a hurry.

I'M BLIND BUT I'M NOT BLIND TO CHANGE

I wish here to strongly urge all right-thinking Malaysians to cast their votes for the opposition during the forthcoming general elections as the Barisan government has overstayed its welcome. I get the impression that the Barisan caretaker government is now running scared and is employing dirty tactics to stifle the opposition parties.

The mainstream media and the radio and TV stations have been used to great effect by the caretaker administration to further its cause and it is clear that even the police are trying their best to clamp down on opposition rallies.

There is no doubt in my mind that this will be the dirtiest election in Malaysian history as the Barisan government knows only too well that they have lost the support of all right-thinking Malaysians.

So many major scandals have surfaced during the reign of this despotic government and all the culprits have got off Scott-free. The most apparent of these scandals was the Lingam tape scandal and I believe that it is a foregone conclusion what the royal commission set-up to deal with it will decide - they will say there is not enough evidence.

At the same time, the Altantuya murder case has gone on for far too long now and for some strange reason, the case has been postponed again. I bet that at the end of the trial, no one will be any the wiser as to who murdered the unfortunate victim.

I also read with great interest the Malaysiakini report Letter: Penang 'bribed' Motorola to stay Something tells me that the good persons who exposed the letter may be charged under the Official Secrets Act. An Incident With TV9

Dear Readers,

I wish to share an incident with you with regards to the TV9 management and you decide as to who is telling the truth.

Recently, TV9 invited me to participate in a reality TV show to highlight the talents of the disabled community where some recordings have already been made for the programme through my participation. However, when the TV authorities visited my blog and found out that I am critical of the government, I was unceremoniously dropped from the show. When I brought this matter to the attention of Malaysiakini, their investigative reporter was told by the TV 9 authorities that the programme was only meant to highlight the talents of Muslim handicapped people. It is quite obvious that I was dropped from the programme because of my political views, and not for the lame excuse which they gave to Malaysiakini. Unfortunately, Malaysiakini took their explanation for the gospel truth, and as such, has decided not to follow up with the matter. As we all know, all the TV stations in Malaysia are controlled and owned by the government and their cronies. I have come to the conclusion that the TV 9 management has dropped me from the show because of my dissenting views towards the government. This is certainly laughable, don't you think?

As usual the MCA president is echoing the views of his political masters by criticizing the peaceful but massive rally organised by BERSIH. As I have said many a time Ong Ka Ting and all MCA representatives have no business speaking out on behalf of the chinese community. Malaysian petitioners defy police

I'm proud to announce that as a blind individual, I made a serious attempt to attend the mass rally that was organised by Bersih to pressure the government for a clean and fair election. However, it is most regretful that I did not manage to complete the march, mainly because of having suffered the tear-gas attack and the heavy downpour that took place. For your information, I was near the Sogo shopping complex and joined the demonstration for a short time until I was immobilized by the above mentioned factors. I strongly feel that the police over-reacted and that the brutality that was meted out to the peaceful demonstrators was most uncalled for. It goes without saying that the ruling clique will take full advantage of the fact that they had won the day by becoming more oppressive towards its citizens to prevent another showdown. Although I do not condone violence, it is my contention that the only language that this tyrannical government understands is people-power, for you can have many more peaceful demonstrations but in my humble opinion, nothing will be achieved. What's more this very despotic administration will tighten the screws on us law-abiding citizens and make life more miserable for us. At the same time, they will continue to plunder the nation on a larger scale like there is no tomorrow. However, the only alternative left is to vote out this very unpopular Barisan government during the forth-coming elections to show them that we have had enough of their despotic rule. It is hoped that with a new government, apartheid, corruption and discrimination will be things of the past.

Malaysian police turn tear gas, water cannons on protesters

While attending yesterday's rally, I have nothing but praise for the many participants of the historical event, and as a blind individual I really wish that I could have contributed more such as by marching to the Agong's palace where the memo was handed to the king's officials. Due to the amount of tear-gas that was fired into the crowd near the Sogo MRT station, I found it difficult to continue with the march. The heavy downpour also dampened the spirits of many of the demonstrators including myself, and to make things worse, the heavy handed tactics of the police was quite unnecessary. Once again, I wish to congratulate all Malaysians who took part in the march especially all those who managed to make it to the Agong's palace. All you courageous citizens of Malaysia have certainly created history, and it is my believe that the Barisan government has now more cause to worry as they are certainly aware of the discontentment that their subjects have towards them. So my dear friends, stand up for your rights, and come the forthcoming general elections. Remember to vote out this very oppressive, corrupt and discriminatory government for I strongly feel that we have been persecuted and side-lined long enough.

Malaysians hold huge rally for free elections

Today I had my first experience of having been attacked with teargas and believe you me, it was no fun. The burning sensation in my nostrils is something I will never forget for a long time. I get the impression that the heavy downpour was engineered by the ruling clique, either by conducting cloud-seeding, or by making use of the services of a bomoh. All in all, being at the rally was certainly an unpleasant experience, no thanks to the brutality of the police. Of course, the very inhuman Barisan government has to take full responsibility for what took place this afternoon. When the shouts rang out at the rally, I really felt proud for these very courageous Malaysians who made it a point to come out and show their contempt for this very tyrannical government. Although I did not make it to the palace, I wish to congratulate all those of you who did, for history will remember you for your bravery and great sacrifices.

Finally, I am indeed puzzled as to how Khairy Jamaludin can wield so much power just because he is the son-in-law of the prime minister. Furthermore, he is not even a member of parliament and yet he seems to be running the government together with all his cronies. May I remind the ruling administration that we, right thinking Malaysians are still a force to be reckoned with and will continue the struggle until we vote in a government that does not take its citizens for granted.

Allow rally for electoral reform

Why is Johari sticking his neck out for Mahathir? Does he have an axe to grind? In my opinion, I think that Johari is wasting his time and jeopardizing his position in UMNO, for it is my belief that both Mahathir and Badawi have both already buried the hatchet and have decided to share the spoils together with their family members including their many cronies. The UMNO general assembly is held every year to serve as a reminder to all Malaysians of other races not to question the rights of the malays and to extend the period of the new economic policy, for although if my memory serves me correct, it has already gone on for more than 30 years now. I wish to take to task the comments made by Chua Soi Lek of the MCA for defending Hishamudin's vile act of waving the keris year in and year out. This MCA official is most certainly a traitor to all Malaysians of Chinese descent and a disgrace to his race. One of the UMNO delegates going by the name of Ismail Ahmad even had the audacity of trying to chase Malaysians out of the country especially those who are aligned to the opposition parties. What right has he got to make such a statement, for we have just as much right as he has to be living in this country. All in all, I strongly believe that the annual UMNO general assembly is a recipe for disaster, but fortunately, most Malaysians of other races are peace loving by nature and would rather suffer in silence in spite of the apartheid policies practiced by the ruling clique. Badruddin refuses to retrack remark

So, Badruddin, one of the 3 clowns is at it again. From my observations, having heard a few parliamentary debates myself, I sense that the parliamentary speakers are rather biased towards the opposition. This is certainly a sad state of affairs. whenever insults are thrown at the opposition, the barisan MPs are only given a slap on the wrist, while the speakers of parliament would order the aggrieved party to sit down and at the same time, have their microphones switched off. May I therefore suggest to the members of the opposition to carry megaphones into parliament so that when the speaker switches-off the microphones of the opposition members of the house, then they should shout into their megaphones in order to be heard.

Speaking as a member of the disabled community, I wish to condemn in the strongest terms the uncultured behaviour of some of the very arrogant barisan MPs. It is no wonder that the government has decided not to telecast or broadcast parliamentary proceedings or more recently even the UMNO general assembly for they know fully well that it will incur the wrath of the public. Throwing insults at opposition MPs by Barisan MPs seems to be a great past time for these uncultured beings for they jolly well know that they are untouchable and that no action can and will be taken against them. If this trend is allowed to continue, then I fear that violence might just erupt one of these days for even restraint has its limits. Fortunately members of the opposition are able to control their emotions to a certain extent. Sometimes when I listen to parliamentary debates, I get the feeling that I am at a circus, what with all the shouting going on.

Finally, may I remind all right thinking citizens of Malaysia to vote out the Barisan Nasional government for it has overstayed its welcome. Let us give our undivided support to the opposition with the hope that apartheid and corruption will be things of the past. Face to face - Marina Mahathir

I sent an email to Marina urging her to impress upon her father to right the many wrongs to his fellow citizens but alas, she chose to reject my email. The almighty may have given Mahathir a new lease of life so that he can have the opportunity of repenting his crimes towards society, make reparations to Malaysians wherever possible and probably even shed light on the now infamous Lingamgate saga. If Marina is really for justice, then why does she not use some of her family fortune to help the many people that her father has persecuted during his 22 years in power. I get the impression that both Mahathir and Badawi have now mended fences and may have even decided to share the spoils together. It is really ironical that whilst Mahathir was against homosexuality, Marina headed the pink triangle organization. How was that possible, I wonder.

Finally, Mahathir, if you are reading this blog, may I strongly urge you to take full advantage of the new lease of life that the almighty has granted you, by repenting of your past misdeeds and at the same time exposing all your corrupt ministers and their wrong-doings. Please also shed light on the Lingamgate saga if you are involved in this conspiracy for it has already gone on long enough and furthermore, the lives of some brave and innocent people might be ruined. As the saying goes, God has a purpose for everything, and I believe that your recovery is part of his plan.

The demands made by the ACA to Anwar and the PKR is most disgraceful and deplorable. I strongly urge Anwar and his party to stand their ground and not give in to demands of the ACA to surrender the now infamous Lingam video tape. Instead of investigating the culprits, the ACA has decided to intimidate the whistle blowers and this is really uncalled for.

How much longer is the government going to take us Malaysians for fools? Malik Hussein and independence of judiciary

Mahathir the mastermind, Rahim Noor the boxing clown, Borhan the arresting officer together with his band of torturers should be made to cough out the hefty sum awarded by the high court to Malik. Did I hear some of you answer, correct, correct, correct? Personally, I strongly feel that public funds should not be used to pay out the compensation as quite a sizable amount of money is involved.

By the way, I wrote an email to Marina Mahathir, urging her to impress upon her father, when he has fully recovered, to right the many wrongs towards his fellow citizens, but to my disappointment, she chose not to entertain my email. It is my prediction that Malik will not live to see a cent of his compensation awarded by the high court, as I strongly believe that the ruling administration will certainly appeal the judgement. Furthermore, I think that this is just another election ploy by the Barisan Nasional government to garner more votes. However, if my prediction is incorrect and Malik gets his well deserved reward, then it would be nice if he could use part of the money to help the down-trodden and all those people who have been oppressed by this very despotic government.

ACA orders Anwar to hand over original video clip

Chan Kong Choy as Minister of Transport should be relieved of his post with immediate effect to take responsibility for at least 2 major disasters that have taken place in the last few months, not forgetting a huge scandal which surfaced recently. Some months ago, a horrific bus crash took place near Taiping where at least 20 passengers lost their lives and many more were critically injured. What's more, the bus driver was high on drugs, and to top it all, his driving license had already expired. At the same time, several warrants of arrest were served on the bus driver concerned, but yet he was allowed to drive the ill fated bus. Unfortunately, the bus driver also succumbed to his injuries during the horrific accident. It was also reported that the bus company had even accumulated many summonses from the JPJ, but yet it was business as usual for the bus company thus causing the unnecessary loss of lives. Then more recently, a ferry that was not seaworthy and whose license had expired caught fire during its journey resulting in at least half a dozen fatalities and several more being injured. It was also discovered that the license of the ferry concerned had expired since December 2006. Reports were also abound that during the hari raya period, a Palestinian managed to hide in the wheel compartment of a Singapore bound plane parked at the KLIA but who was arrested when the plane landed in Singapore.

Finally, the ministry was also embroiled in a huge scandal known as the PKFZ fiasco where a company had to be bailed out by the government to the tune of almost 5 billion dollars. To avoid answering questions from the press as he was implicated in the matter, Chan Kong Choy took the easy way out by feigning illness and subsequently took leave to go to Australia supposedly for a medical checkup. It is quite normal for Barisan government ministers such as Chan Kong Choy to shirk their responsibilities and put the blame on their subordinates instead. As such, like all right thinking Malaysians, I strongly feel that this very irresponsible transport minister should be taken to task and that even legal action be taken against him for the many disasters and scandals that have taken place all this while.

However, we all know that this will just be wishful thinking, and before too long, everything will be forgotten. As such, my dear friends, let us wake up to reality and cast our precious votes for the opposition, for we need to vote in a government which will treat all its citizens equally, and where discrimination and corrupt practices will be things of the past.

No wonder Zam has told the press that Badawi is not interested in hearing the truth, except from government officials. The charitable institutions should not have sent their inmates to attend Zakariah's dinner. No amount of good that he is trying to do now can save him from the punishment that he deserves in the hereafter. As stated in the article, Zakariah's palacial mansion sticks out like a sore thumb in a squatter area. Why has this crook not been punished for building such a huge mansion, the money which he would have got through dubious means, whilst other people who have committed lesser crimes have had harsh punishments meted out to them. Time and time again, the ruling administration has been testing our patience, and I think that the time has now come for us to say that enough is enough, so the only way to go is to vote in the opposition to show the Barisan government that we will no longer stand for their corrupt and evil ways.

By the way, who gave Ng Yen Yen the authority not to allow little dragon ladies from China to work as maids in Malaysia. Did she seek the views of all Malaysians before making her petition to the government with regards to this matter? Anyway, this is just a very small concession made by the government just to please the MCA. However, I wish to challenge the MCA or any other component party within the Barisan government to influence their political masters to
treat all Malaysian citizens equally and to consider all Malaysians as bumiputras regardless of race or creed. If the component parties within the ruling administration can achieve this, then my dear friends, by all means vote in the Barisan government in the forthcoming general elections again. However, I am absolutely sure that the MCA will not be able to change the status quo. So once again, my dear Malaysians, may I remind you to use your votes wisely by voting in the opposition for it's time that we voted in a clean, efficient and trustworthy government.

Flap over MM's remarks on non - malays

Lee Kuan Yew is more than qualified to put forth his views with regards to Malaysia. Granted, that his government is a little authoritarian, but at least, all Singaporeans are treated equally, and the needs of his citizens are all well taken care of. It is no exaggeration when I say that none of the Barisan politicians can match the intelligence of Lee Kuan Yew. May I suggest to the man with 2 Mohammads in his name to retire and stop making uncalled-for statements. He should just enjoy all his ill-gotten gains before his maker decides to call him to account for his many crimes towards mankind. Gerakan is as usual playing to the gallery again, with Chia Kwang Chye criticizing Lee Kuan Yew. Politicians like him should be kicked out of office.

By the way, Tee Keat, you have spoken well this time, although I wonder how your superiors would react to your outspoken views. Tell me, sir, does team A and team B still exist? Finally, Tee Keat, the doors to the opposition are still wide open to you, so when are you coming to join us for we certainly need intelligent and sincere people such as your good self. Mahathir started off this whole fiasco. There is no doubt that a Malay would be chosen to be the lucky space tourist. Furthermore, he is the offspring of well connected parents. Apart from protesting, what can we say or do, as the purse- strings are being pulled by this very unpopular Barisan government. To prevent another space tourist from being sent into space next year again, make sure that you deny your precious vote to the Barisan government so that public funds can be used wisely. At the end of the day, it is your decision whether you wish to have a good government or not. So remember to vote wisely my friends, for once a mistake is made, there is no turning back. Voting in the opposition is the only way to save the nation from more disasters and scandals.

Same old song, the spin doctors are at it again. Everything in that report sounds too far-fetched. Believe it or not, I have attended Badawi's first hari raya gathering with the purpose of handing him a letter requesting his intervention in a dispute that I was having with RTM. Unfortunately, nothing came out of it as he decided to ignore my letter altogether till this very day. Anyway, coming back to the food. There was nothing to shout about, for if I remember correctly, the beef rendang was so tough that it was no fun eating it.. the cakes that was served was not fresh, and in short, if I had to pay for the food, I would have regretted it. I am in total agreement with you that having 200 thousand people to attend Badawi's function is certainly an exaggeration, and for the reasons which you have given in your article, it is just cheap publicity and wishful-thinking on the part of the organizers of the function. When are these crooks going to stop taking Malaysians for fools?.

I wish here to remind all Malaysians, that more Malaysian tourists will be blasted-off into space in the next few years as has been reported in the media. To avoid more hundred millions of dollars from being squandered by the Barisan government, let us all use our precious votes wisely by denying our votes for this very corrupt government, for as I have said many a time, voting in the opposition is the only way to go if we want to save our nation from these immoral officials and plunderers.

As usual a very splendid article. You certainly did not pull any punches with your frank views and most of all, you were rather witty in that interview. RPK, your reasoning that the opposition should boycott the elections does make a lot of sense, but however, I strongly feel that we need an opposition to speak out about the injustices that is happening all too frequently these days. For your information, I am proud to announce that I will be joining the ranks of the opposition by becoming a member of the democratic action party this coming Sunday, the 14th of this month at Teresa Kok's service centre. At least, I now have another platform to air my grievances against this very dictatorial government, and even get the opportunity to inform Malaysian voters of their rights to vote in a new government. Although you rightly said, for the opposition to win the forthcoming elections is quite impossible with the odds stacked against them, but however, we should not give up hope as we must not give up without a fight. Recently, i wrote to Marina Mahathir to ask her to impress upon her father to repent of all his misdeeds, and to shed light on the Lingamgate scandal.Of course, I do not expect to get a reply from her. in my humble opinion, Mahathir will not repent, for I remember reading in the news that he congratulated the Malaysian space tourist who was blasted into space on Wednesday. I believe that sending a Malaysian to space was the brainchild of mahathir, and what's more, about 100 million dollars of the taxpayer's money has been wasted in this stupid project, when these funds could have been better spent to help Malaysians subsidise food prices, gas and petroleum hikes and to provide much better health care, etc. I may sound unpatriotic, but 100 million dollars could certainly be put to better use to give Malaysians a better quality of life. Finally, RPK, like many Malaysia-Today readers, I sincerely hope that you will set up a political party to right the wrongs of this very despotic government for their many crimes seem to go unchecked. It leads me to believe that the motto of the Barisan government is, "Might Is Right". I'm glad that both Sivarasa and Sim of the PKR have decided to stand their ground with regards to the Lingam tape issue, rather than to be bullied into submission by the government and the ACA.

Like all other right thinking Malaysians, I wish to register my protest with the barisan government for spending the astronomical sum of 100 million dollars just to send a Malaysian tourist to space. In my opinion, this is absolutely criminal. This huge amount of money could have been better spent by subsidizing food prices, petroleum and toll hikes and providing better health care for all Malaysians. It has come to my attention that this space adventure is the brain-child of ex premier mahathir, and the present administration has chosen to carry out his legacy. To add insult to injury, I believe that the barisan government will be sending another Malaysian space tourist into space next year, thus throwing another 100 million dollars of taxpayer's money down the drain. I think that as loyal citizens of the country, we should speak out with regards to the wastage of public funds, and that these funds should be put to better use to benefit us all Malaysians.

Another travesty of justice. The inhuman imam should be jailed for at least 70 years for not entertaining the poor woman's complaint. As usual, the police have also shirked their duty by not acting on the report made by the victim. Nazri had his house burgled, and the crime was solved within a week. Why should any Malaysian be ashamed of being a whistle-blower. In fact, his action should be applauded as he would have done a service for the nation. May I even suggest that the whistle-blower be conferred a title such as that of Tan Sri or some higher title. Nazri's statement of offering the whistle-blower a change of identity or plastic surgery is most absurd. Why can't the government grant the whistle-blower 24 hours protection, just as the British author Salman Rushdie was given round the clock protection for about 10 years when a death sentence was imposed on him by certain Muslim clerics. As I have said before, Nazri is certainly a liability to the government and to all Malaysian citizens. Finally, I hope that readers to Malaysia-Today can enlighten us further about Nazri's son being embroiled in a murder case that took place at Uncle Don's cafe as I am quite sure that it will make interesting reading.

As usual, Nazri is talking crap. Why should whistle-blowers change their identities or go for plastic surgery. What an absurd statement. I get the impression that both Nazri and the government are not sincere in wanting to protect the whistle-blowers; rather, they want to find out who exposed the now infamous video tape so that legal action can be taken against them later. Who in their right mind would contemplate having a change of identity or even undergoing plastic surgery just for exposing a scandal.

Four million can't vote this year

The elections commission is just another tool of the Barisan government. Malaysians lose interest in trial of the century

Just like many other high profile trials, the Altantuya trial is a farce and the verdict is already a foregone conclusion. At the end of the day, there will be insufficient evidence against the 3 accused, and that they will go off Scot free. It is no wonder that the public has lost all interest in the case. I think that the perpetrators of this very horrific and inhuman crime will only receive their just desserts in the afterlife. If we allow the judiciary to be manipulated by people in high places, then I fear that justice will be a rare commodity for all law abiding citizens in Malaysia.

We have only 1 option if we want to bring about change, and that is to vote out the present government who have failed us for the best part of 50 years. As you all know, one of the component parties of the Barisan Nasional i.e. the Gerakan held its general assembly just 2 days ago. Koh Tsu Koon and his party members spoke against corruption within the government and pressed the authorities to hold a royal commission with regards to the Lingam tape saga. However, prime minister Badawi appeared to be unperturbed and even avoided questions from the press at the Gerakan assembly. My question to all Gerakan members is this; should your masters within the Barisan decide not to act on your suggestions and complaints, what will be your next course of action. If you are all sincere, and still have principles and decency, then I would strongly urge all of you to leave the government to join the opposition as you would have more dignity in this respect.

The verdict of the Lingamgate saga is already a fore-gone conclusion as both the characters involved will be found not guilty. Just like all other scandals implicating this corrupt government, the above mentioned scandal will evaporate into thin air, never to be heard about again. Maybe the ACA would have us believe that actor Patrick Teoh was playing the part of Lingam in that monologue telephone conversation. It is rather ironical that instead of punishing the culprits, the ACA has decided to punish the PKR duo instead. Although rather remote, should both Lingam and Fairuz be found guilty of manipulating the judiciary, they should be made to share the same prison cell so that they can enjoy each other's company for the rest of their lives.

It has just been reported over the TV 3 news bulletin that the ACA intends to punish both Sivarasa and Sim of the PKR if they do not disclose the person or persons behind the Lingam tape. What a scandal. May I suggest that should action be taken against these 2 brave people from PKR, let us all Malaysia-Today readers organize a peaceful march to show our support for them for exposing this saga, and to show the Barisan government that enough is enough. It has also been reported that thousands of scholarships will be given to mat rempits and that 300 of these thugs have already benefited from this generous offer by the Umno youth.

The minister and his stupid stupid utterances

Like many other ministers, Nazri is a liability to the government. We should not take anymore nonsense from him. I am baffled as to how he got his law degree. He must have bought it with a hefty sum.

By the way, the Barisan government has spoken out against the Burmese government for cracking down on its citizens. Would I then be correct in assuming that the Barisan government is giving us the green light to show our disenchantment by following the example of our Burmese brethren? However, if I am wrong, then let us voters show our displeasure by voting these goons out of office before more damage is done.

Believe it or not, toll and transportation charges are going up next year, presumably after the general elections. It is rather unfortunate that most Malaysians are easily satisfied and as such would like to retain the status quo. If only they could imagine what their lives would be like if they continue to support this very incompetent and despotic government.
